Note all graves in the Bowen-Dekle Cemetery face East toward the Holy Land. Directions: 9 miles Southeast of Candler County Courthouse. Go East on I-16 to the Excelsior Exit (Exit # 111). Go right, approximately 3/4 mile to the first brick home on the left. Turn left onto Remer Lane, an unpaved, dirt county road, then go 1/2 mile and on your left is a BOWEN - DEKLE CEMETERY sign pointing to the right side of the road (A Private Road) which is owned by the descendants of Elisha Bowen and Penelope Everett Bowen, who are buried in this cemetery. Proceed along this Private Cemetery road path for 700 yards to the cemetery which is fenced in with a chain link fence. The monuments marking Deborah Bowen's final resting place are made of blue Georgia granite and were placed there by the descendants of her parents and grandparents.

Deborah Bowen died as an infant and is a daughter of John Hunter Bowen (also buried in this cemetery) and Susannah Elizabeth Strickland Bowen (buried in the Middleground Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Bulloch County). Debra had seven siblings surviving to adulthood, as listed below:

5TH SIBLING - MARGARET ELIZABETH BOWEN (B. OCT 1861, D. 03 JUN 1934) (MARRIED PETER CONE RICHARDSON) (buried in Middleground Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Bulloch County)
6TH SIBLING - SILAS EVERETT BOWEN (B. 09 FEB 1862, D. 20 SEP 1931)
7TH SIBLING - WILLIAM PETER BOWEN (B. CA. 1867, D. 1918) MARRIED WINNIE HAGAN. FIVE CHILDREN FROM THIS MARRIAGE, 4 DAUGHTERS & 1 SON.

Deborah is the only child in this family not surviving to adulthood. John Hunter Bowen, her father, is buried just to Deborah's left (on the right to a visitor).

Deborah's Grandparents, Elisha Bowen and Penelope Everett Bowen and her Uncle Robert Bowen (who also died very young) are also buried within this 12-ft. by 16-ft. cemetery plot where she is buried.
