Member of one of Mitchell County's pioneer farming families, he was 'born at Dorn, the community named for his father, February 26, 1892. He lived on his farm at Dorn all his life and was for many decades an active member of Dorn Chapel Methodist Church, also named for his family. He served the church as treasurer for many years and was a leader in renovating the landmark in recent years.
He was married here in Mitchell County October 15, 1911, to the former Miss. Katherine Witt.
Funeral rites were held in the Dorn Church Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock with Reverend Ray Copeland of Loraine and Reverend Gene B. Louder, pastor of both St. Luke and Dorn Methodist Churches. Burial was in the Dorn Cemetery which adjoins the church under the direction of Kiker and Son Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Rev. C. C. Dorn of Hartney, Texas, Jack Dorn of Colorado City, Pierce, Jr. of Coahoma; three daughters, Mrs. Ray Bell of Colorado City, Mrs. James Jarrett of Westbrook, and Mrs. Jabe Whirley of O'Donnell, Texas; one brother, Marvin of Colorado City; six sisters, Mrs. T. J. Coffee of Loraine, Mrs. J. L. Dow of Lubbock, Mrs. W. J. Chesney, Mrs. T. C. Richardson, Mrs. Emma Thrailkill and Mrs. Rube Hart all of Colorado City; 18 grandchildren.
