She married Minter Bailey Cookman, son of Minter Bailey Cookman and Margaret Elizabeth Reel, on August 15, 1874 in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana. Their children were Charles, Frank C., M. Carey, John W., Willard Clement, Susan M., M. Hubert, Maggie E., Katie S., Ray, Lester Bryan and F. Esther Cookman.

SARAH COOKMAN EXPIRED SUNDAY
Mrs. Sarah Jane Cookman, age 75, resident of Anderson most of her life, died of Bright's disease Sunday at 4:30pm at the family home, 1429 West Tenth Street. She had been in a serious condition for two weeks. Funeral services probably will be held Wednesday afternoon at the home. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery.
Mrs. Cookman is survived by seven sons, Frank, Cary, John, Clem, Hubert, Ray and Lester Cookman all of Anderson; a daughter, Mrs. Susan Combs, of this city; 29 grandchildren; a half-sister, Mrs. Celia Hegman of Danville, Ill., and two half-brothers, Glen Mead, of Middletown, and John Mead, of Anderson.
Born in Anderson, Mrs. Cookman had spent practically all of her life here. She had resided in several other cities in the state, but for the past 41 years had lived here, the family home during that period being on West Tenth Street. Her husband, Minter Cookman, was a plumber here in the gas boom days. He died eighteen years ago. Mrs. Cookman was a member of the United Brethren church.
