Vaughn E. McCoy was born June 4, 1909, at Utopia, in Greenwood County, the son of Hugh Robert and Melvina Chastain McCoy. He married Izada Kelly in 1927, and she died in 1960. On Sept. 1, 1962, he married Edith McCoy in ElDorado. Mr. McCoy returned to the Eureka area in 1978 from Wichita. He was a member of the Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Edith; three stepsons, Forrest Cheever of Madison, Danny McCoy of Shreveport, LA., and Raymond McCoy of Abilene, Tex.; two daughters, Melvina Phillips of Garden City and Rachel Tatman of Chanute; seven stepdaughters, Frances Smith of Towanda, Winnie Johnson of Eureka, Opal Hoyt of Emporia, Alice Lamb of Mansfield, LA.,, Dorothy Guzman of Hacienda Heights, Calif., Glayds Aikman of Garland, Tex., and Doris Chambers of Iola; and two sisters, Eva Phillips of Hamilton and Carrie Alsop of Independence. One duaghter, Vivian Tatman, died in 1958 and one stepson Ralph Cheever, died in 1961.
