"Charles T. McCoy, Joplin, Mo., formerly of Kansas City, died Wednesday at a hospital in Joplin. He was born in Missouri and had lived in this area most of his life before moving to Joplin about three years ago. Mr. McCoy was a truck driver 26 years before he retired four years ago. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Florence I. McCoy of the home; a son, Vence McCoy of 1660 Jefferson; three daughters, Mrs. Charlene Garringer of Kansas City, Kansas, Mrs. Zelma Golden of Lebanon, Mo., and Miss Thelma McCoy of Waco, Texas; three stepsons, Richard G. McElfish of 6806 N.W. 71st, Thomas McElfish with the Navy in Puerto Rico, and William J. McElfish of 2511 Chelsea; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Carolyn Martinez of 6715 N. Hickory and Mrs. Edith Ruiz of 2508 Chelsea; a brother, Vaughn McCoy of Eureka, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Alsop of Independence, Kan., and Mrs. Eva Phillips of Hamilton, Kan.; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Newcomer White Chapel; burial in White Chapel Cemetery." The Kansas City Times, June 29, 1979
