BURLINGTON, KS - Letta Melvina Phillips, 75, of Chanute, Kansas, died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kansas.
She was born May 16, 1928, at Teterville, Kansas, a daughter of Vaughn and Izada (Kelly) McCoy.
On Sept. 6, 1946, she married Elwin Eugene Phillips at Nevada, Missouri. He died on March 17, 1999
They lived on a farm near Virgil, KS, when they were first married and she helped with the livestock and farming. They later moved to Kingman, KS, where she had worked as a nurses aide and cook in different nursing homes and restaurants. She retired in 1993. She lived in Neosho Rapids until her husband's death. She had spent the past five years in Chanute with her sister.
She enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Survivors include adopted daughter, Donna Dunn, San Antonio, TX; step-son, Elwin E. Phillips, Jr., Arkansas; two adopted granddaughters; one step-granddaughter; and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rachel Tatman, Chanute, KS, and Dorris Chambers, Grapevine, TX; and two brothers, Forrest Cheever, Madison, KS, and Harry Beacom, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, east of Burlington, Kansas.
Jones Funeral Home, Box 277, Burlington, Kansas, is in charge of arrangements.
