Charles Fred Smith, Sr. 73, Town of Fond du Lac, a County farmer for many years, died at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Ripon, Dec. 16, 1885 and was married here Nov. 6, 1912 to Miss Edna Kippenhan. He was the son of Carl and Bertha Smith.
Mr. Smith was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Surviving are his widow; 11 children. Chester, Charles, Jr. James, Robert, Charles, Charles (sic) Frederick, city. Richard, Racine, Paul and George, New York, Mrs. Harland Snyder and Mrs. Floyd Snyder, town of Fond du Lac, and Mrs. William Patterson, North Fond du Lac, and four half-brothers, Herman Rahl, Town of Eldorado, Louis and William Rahl, City and Alfred Rahl, Princeton. The body of Mr. Smith will be at the Candlish Chapel. Further announcements will be made.

Funeral services for Charles F. Smith Sr. who died Wednesday will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Candlish Chapel. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. B. J. Stecker will officate.

**NOTE: The obituary has several issues:

1)Charles' parents surname was originally Rahl. He was born Carl Frederick Rahl(sp).
2)His place of birth is actually Pumptow, Pommern Province, Germany. He immigrated 17 Apr 1894 with his parents through Boston.
3)The half-brothers mentioned are actually full brothers although he had 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
4) This obit fails to mention his children from his previous marriage to Bertha Rupnow as Carl Rahl.

Also, there were indeed 3 Charles' as children. They were known as Charles, "Sonny" (Charles Frederick), and "Junior"(Charles Frederick Jr.).
