He married first, Emma Grace Sterling, 22 Dec 1909 in Sedalia, MO. She was enumerated with him in the 1920 census. He married second, Almira Louise Althaver, 29 Oct 1924 in Kansas City. She died from complications of an appendicitis on 16 Jul 1928, and he married for the third time, Freda Gammon, on 20 Aug 1934. Born in Sedalia, MO., Mr Atkinson worked in Sedalia, MO, Bloomington, IL, and Kansas City, MO. for the railways. A veteran of WWI he was awarded the Croix De Guerre for bravery in action. He served overseas eighteen months and was cited for bravery in standing night guard duty for thirty-seven hours without relief. He returned to Kansas City after the war, and worked for the Milwaukee (RR). He worked for the Hirsch Distilling Co, before he succumbed to his illness. Mr. Atkinson was a veteran, a Mason, and a member of the Brotherhood of Saint Andrew.
