Agnes was the daughter of Robert and Jane (Kendall) Hayhurst, Lancashire, England. Agnes and John and six children left England on the Lord Gough Steamer in the fall of 1886. They had six more children while living in Missouri.

Mrs. Agnes Hayhurst Atkinson, b. 8 Jun 1856 in Lancashire, England died 13 Oct, 1939 of heart disease. She married John Atkinson at St. George Episcopal church, Barrow in Furness, England, 28 Sep 1876. They had six children in the next ten years and all sailed to America on the Lord Gough steamer, arriving on 3 Dec 1886.
Six more children were born to the couple in Sedalia and of the twelve born, seven survive. Left to mourn her passing are Mrs. A.W. Goldsmith, Mrs. Maggie Goldsmith, Mrs. G.A. Cox, James W. Atkinson, Arthur T. Atkinson, of Sedalia: Mrs. J.E. Gornall and Edward H. Atkinson of Kansas City.
Interment in Crown Hill Cemetery.
