John Atkinson, Former Resident Dies
John Atkinson, a former resident in this city, who had been for many years an engineer of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, died several days ago at his home in Pleasant View, Mo. (Pleasant View Farm) He was 71 years old at the time of his death.
Atkinson is survived by his wife and nine children, He was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Brotherhood Engineers and the Knights and Ladies of Security.

No death certificate has been found, however, there is a death claim on the Knights and Ladies of Security/Security Benefit Association dated May 1923 with a death date of 26 Feb 1923 and city of Sedalia, Mo. for John Atkinson. (from the Kansas Historical Society)
