Lee W. Adams

GALENA, KANSAS: Lee W. Adams, age 82, 305 W. 21st, died at 7:20 am, Sat. Dec. 19, 2009 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO.

Mr. Adams was born Jan. 7, 1927 in Lowell, KS to Winnie and Dovie (Toler) Adams.

He was youngest of 14 siblings.

He was a lifetime resident of Galena.

Lee worked as a machinist at Vickers Inc, Joplin, MO until his retirement in 1979.

He and his wife also owned and operated Crown Lanes Bowling Alley and the Galena Roller Rink for several years.

He attended New Hope Assembly, Joplin, MO and the Empire Mission Church, Galena, KS.

Lee was married to Anna May Hill on Oct. 11, 1952 at Fayetteville, AR. She survives.

Additional survivors include one son, Ron Adams (wife, Kim), Fayetteville, AR; one daughter, Anna Lee Alumbaugh (husband, Rick); four grandchildren, Jodi Krei (husband, Chris), Ryan Adams, Jessica Adams, and Scott Alumbaugh; two great-grandchildren, Casey Krei and Quentin Krei; one sister, Ruby Ingersoll, Carl Junction, MO; and special nephew, Ray Adams (wife, Eileen) Galena, KS.

He was preceded in death by brothers Fred, Walter, Floyd, Harold, Alfred, Raymond and Clarence. Sisters Silvia Walton, Clara Adams, Leota Harris, Mable Elliott and Alice Murray.

He loved to tease and joke and his fun loving personality made him the life-of-the-party. He always had a joke for any situation. He never met a stranger and normally knew someone wherever he went. In a crowd of strangers he would always leave with several new friends. His stories about growing up on a farm with thirteen siblings were always entertaining and hilarious. The strength of his body and character was uncommon to say the least.

He attended church and enjoyed listening to songs and hymns sung by friends.

He liked to play match-maker for those alone and was a caring person who opened his heart and home to many. Lee was a true family man and a father figure to more than just his own two children. His family was his top priority. He lovingly cared for his wife during health issues, and bragged to everyone about his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was always there to help anyone who needed it.

He was an avid hunter and he coached Farm Club, Little League, and Babe Ruth teams in Galena for years. He loved going to his grandkid's and great grandson's ball games.

He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 at Empire Mission Church, Galena, KS. Pastor Bob Winnett and Pastor Eddie McAfee will officiate.

Burial will be in Lowell Cemetery, Lowell, KS.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 pm, Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at the funeral home.
