Charles Eugene "Gene" Overfield, 73, Leavenworth, KS died Friday, August 3, 2001 at his home. He was born September 8, 1927 in Leavenworth the son of Scott Westfield and Florence Belle Overfield. On September 15, 1951 he married Betty A. Szopski in Chicago, IL. She survives in the home. He served in the United States Army from October of 1945 to July of 1947. He worked for 10 years for Dale Sharp and George Green Pontiac then worked 10 years for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company then for Armed Forces Insurance Exchange, retiring after 22 years as Senior Vice-President. Following his retirement Gene continued to serve on the Board of Directors of the Armed Forces Insurance Exchange. He served as President of the Leavenworth Association of Life Underwriters. He was a member fo the Fraternal Order of Eagles #55. Besides his wife, Betty A. Overfield, he his survived by sons Gary Wayne Overfield-Leavenworth, Gregory Dean Overfield-Leavenworth, daughter Gena Ann Rieck-Leavenworth, brothers Loyd Overfield-Leaveworth, Nelson Overfield-Marlingen, TX, sisters Maxine Dunbar and Rose Stewart, both of Leavenworth, six grandchildren Scott, Kelly, Jennifer & Ashley Rieck and Dustin and Megan Gardner. He was preceeded in death by his parents-Scott W. and Florence Belle Hill Overfield; sisters Hilma Kagan, Lucille Overfield, Edith Schmitz, Helen Burke, Laura Magnussen and Annabel Canady; brothers Warren "Scotty" Overfield, Max Overfield and Ted Overfield. Funeral services will be held 10:00am Monday (8/6/2001) at the Davis Funeral Cahapel. The Rev. David McEvoy and the Rev. Alan Berg will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mount Muncie Cemetery. Friends may call after 2pm Saunday at the Davis Funeral Chapel with the family receiving friends from 4pm to 8pm at the Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or St.John Kansas City Hospice.
