Nannie was the daughter of Henry C. Marsch, who was born in Goldenstedt, Grand Duchy of Oldenburg in November 1820. His name at birth was Johann Heinrich Christopher Beydermasch. Her mother was Nancy Jarrett (Jared), born in Tennessee in January 1832.

Nannie's middle name is seen in family trees as Miner. A source for that name is not known. However, if correct the spelling is most likely Minor, a family name related to the Jarrett family.

Nannie married Charles Carroll Mattingly on January 7, 1891 at Knottsville, Daviess County, Kentucky. She and "CC" had eight children: Anna Lillian, born 1891; Mary Helen, born 1893; William Harmon, born 1894; William Garland, born 1896; Mary Pauline, born 1897; Casper Louis, born 1899; Frances Catherine, born 1901; and Mary Cecilia, born January 27, 1904. Sadly Nannie died just ten days after Mary Cecelia was born.
