Sadie was a daughter of Cornelius Isaiah (Isaac, Ike) & Mary Frances Shankle Rice of Mountaindale and the wife of Dennis Merhl Shankle of Tuscarora District, Yellow Springs.

In addition to her husband and parents , Sadie is survived by two small children, Bernard Marion Shankle and Charlotte Harriet Shankle and a number of cousins,nieces and nephews.

Sadie is survived also by three brothers, Eli Edward Rice, Silas Pirson "Pierce" Rice, Keeder Cornelius Rice and four sisters, Susie Frances Hewitt, Leavie Ilgia Whipp, Grace Elizabeth Eaton and Jennette "Jennie Irene Wachter.

Sadie was predeceased by two brothers, James and Franklin Elmer, and one sister, Rosa B. Rice.
