Keefer was a member of the mountaindale Brethern Dunkard Church. Keefer was a miller, operating his saw mill a long the Fishing Creek Hollow.
In the fall of 1942 Keefer got pneumonia and died as a result, leaving his wife with several young children.
In addition to his wife he was survived by these sons and daughters, sons, Cornelius Isaac Rice, Adam David Rice, Russell Eugene Rice, and Marshall Bernard Rice, daughters Mary Rebecca Smith and husband Jesse Leroy, Rosa May Smith and husband Woodrow, Daisy Gertrude Rice, Betty Jane Rice and Blanche Hilda Rice and was predeceased by one son James Henry Rice.
Keefer was a brother to these siblings with their spouses, Annie Sophie Eyler and husband Charles Grayson, Rueyann "Ruie" May Pearl and Husband Charles J., Grace Elizabeth Eaton and husband Samuel Coleman, Leavie Ilgia Whipp and husband Franklin Keefer, Jeneifer "Jennie" Irene and husband Millard Richard,Pirson Silas Rice and wife Lillie May, Eli Edward Rice and wife Anna May Ruth, Sadie Catherine Shankle and husband Dennis Merhl and Susie Frances Hewitt and husband Alonzo William, and predeceased by a sister Clara Rice and brother Franklin Elmer and a unknown infant.
