"John landed in America on April 12, 1887 at the age of 19. John's two sisters, Mary Ann and Margaret (Lizzie), emigrated to Tecumseh, Michigan in 1884. John's family received many letters from those two sisters telling about the wonderful opportunities available in the United States. John decided to emigrate to America and set out on his journey by himself.
His ship landed at Charleston and he first settled in Blackstock, Chester County, South Carolina with a cousin, John C. Mackorell, and who was a nephew of his grandmother, Margaret Mackorell. He had very little money and no personal belongings when he arrived in Blackstock, but stayed and worked with John as a blacksmith for 3 months.
He then moved to Chester, and secured a job with Mr. R. W. Stricker who operated a blacksmith and livery stable in Chester. He worked at this job for several months and then decided to go into business for himself. He started off in a very small blacksmith shop, and sold and swapped livestock on the side. His business was located on Columbia Street in Chester, just off Main Street.
His business grew rapidly and, in 1891 when his brother, Robert (Uncle Bob) arrived in Chester from County Antrim, Ireland, John was running a prosperous little business. In 1894, 4 years after his father's death in Belfast, Antrim, Ireland, his mother, Sarah Darragh Frazer and his brother Alexander and sister Margaret, arrived in Chester as well.
In 1910, John's family lived at 120 Lancaster Street.
In 1921, John sponsored his sister, Mrs. Martha Frazer-Davis and three of her sons (Edward, Freddie and George), from Belfast, Ireland and they also settled in Chester. Then, in 1922 his aunt, Mrs. Robert (Matilda) Scott arrived in Chester along with seven more children (Johnny, Edith, Isobel, Francis, Ossie, Albert and Adeline).
His business continued to grow year after year, and he bought more and more business property and farm land.
He became vice president of the Peoples National Bank in Chester, Director of the National Exchange Bank, and also formed a business known as the Frazer Livestock Company, with his brother Alexander and his son, Joseph Alexander Frazer. He was the president of that livestock company.
John knew stock and knew them as few men do. He was a great supporter of fairs where horses were shown and raced, and seldom missed an opportunity of attending them in his area of the country.
John was said to be exceedingly energetic, jovial and made hosts of friends through the entire section. Scores of Negroes who were engaged on his many farms were in Chester for the funeral services.
John was the largest land owner in Chester County, being the possessor of several thousand acres in various sections of Chester County. In addition to that, he owned land in York, Fairfield and Lancaster, SC counties. At the time of John's death in 1934, he was considered one of the largest and best farmers in the Piedmont section of South Carolina."
Funeral services were held at his home on Columbia Street by his pastor, Rev. J. Oscar Mann, of Purity Presbyterian Church in Chester, and was attended by a large concourse of friends from Chester County and other sections

John was the largest land owner in Chester County, being the possessor of several thousand acres in various sections of Chester County. In addition to that, he owned land in York, Fairfield and Lancaster, SC counties. At the time of John's death in 1934, he was considered one of the largest and best farmers in the Piedmont section of South Carolina."
Funeral services were held at his home on Columbia Street by his pastor, Rev. J. Oscar Mann, of Purity Presbyterian Church in Chester, and was attended by a large concourse of friends from Chester County and other sections
