Anna Sophia Anders was born September 24, 1866, in Creagerstown District, Frederick County, Maryland, the 6th of 10 children of John William and Minerva Ann Valentine Anders. On September 19, 1887, in Frederick County, Maryland, she married John Calvin Derr, son of Abraham and Anna M. Cover Derr. They were the parents of 7 children: Russell Howard, Clarence Edward, Claude Clifton, Norma Key, Bruce William, Roland Guy and Nettie V. Derr. Anna passed away April 23, 1937, in McKnightstown Station, Adams County, Pennsylvania, and was buried on the 26th in Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery, Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, Maryland.

"Mrs. Anna Sophia Derr, 70, widow of John Calvin Derr, died this morning at 5 o'clock at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Derr, McKnightstown Station, from a complication of diseases. She had been living at the homes of her children for some time and resided with the Derrs for the last three months. The deceased was a native of Rocky Ridge, Maryland, and was a daughter of the late John W. and Minerva (Valentine) Anders. She spent her early life in Maryland and came to Adams County about 35 years ago. Her husband died April 22, 1936. Surviving are five sons, Russell H., Cumberland Township; Clarence E., Keymar, Maryland; Claude C., Mt. Joy Township; Bruce W., Cumberland Township; Ronald, McKnightstown Station; two daughters, Mrs. Samuel G. Harner, Hanover; Mrs. Donald Walters, Cumberland Township; two brothers, Harry Anders, Anacostia, District of Columbia; Grayson Anders, Rocky Ridge, Maryland; one sister, Mrs. Alexander Troxell, Gettysburg R. D., and six grandchildren. Funeral services from the Derr home Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Herbert Schmidt, pastor of Mt. Joy Lutheran Church. Interment in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Rocky Ridge. Friends may call at the Derr home Sunday."

"DERR BOND FILED. The administration bond in the estate of Mrs. Annie S. Derr, Highland Township, has been placed on file at the office of register and recorder by a son, Russell H. Derr, Gettysburg Route 2, the administrator. The estate is valued at $456 in personal property and $2,500 in real estate."
