He was united in marriage to Elsie Josephine Molesworth on March 15, 1899, at the home of her parents in Lucas county. To this union twelve children were born all of whom are living except one, Christian M., who died in infancy.

His wife and children remained at his bedside constantly administering all that loving hands could do. His entire life was spent on a farm in Monroe and Lucas counties with the exception of three years, two in Kansas and one in Oregon. His interests were always in his family and church. He was a devoted husband and kind, loving father and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
At the age of nine years he was wonderfully saved at the Oakdale M. E. church and later united with the church. He received the blessings of entire sanctification at the camp meeting under the ministry of B. S. Taylor at the age of twenty, which experience he enjoyed and proclaimed to the end. Later he received a call to the ministry and was always ready to do pastoral and revival work when called.
In 1912 he helped organize and build the Nazarene church at Chariton of which he was a charter member. His faithfulness to the church was shown by his active service in all departments of the church and Sunday school.
Largely attended funeral services were held Sunday afternoon December 1, at 2:30 o'clock at the Nazarene church in Chariton, conducted by District Superintendent Rev. Hardy C. Powers, of Des Moines assisted by Rev. and Mrs. R. R. Rehfeldt, of Burlington, and his pastor, Rev. Harold Thon, of Chariton. Interment was in the Oxford cemetery.
