BURGETT
Elsie Marie Bingaman Burgett was born February 6, 1903 in Lucas County, daughter of Robert Baird and Elsie Molesworth Bingaman. She passed away at the age of 85 years and six days on February 12, 1988 at her home in Northridge Living Center.
On June 2, 1928 she was united in marriage to L. Glenn Burgett. To this marriage two daughters were born, Margery Marie Downard of Brooks, and Marlene Ann Stone of Chariton.
Marie and Glenn were well known as the owners and operators of "Burgett's Greenhouse" from 1936 to 1970.
Marie was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church, O.E.S., White Shrine, The Chariton Garden Club, and "Canasta Eight."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, her parents and three brothers, Christian, Mark and Alfred.
Surviving are her daughters, Margery and husband Max, Marlene and husband Jerry, five granddaughters, Krist and husband Rick Shoemaker, Denise Downard, Shari and husband Alan Riggs, Marla and husband Chuck Culbertson and Lisa Monroe, one grandson, Dennis and wife Licia Downard, three great-granddaughters, Leslie and April Schilling and Megan Culbertson, five great-grsndsons, Andrew, Nathan and Jacob Downard, Jordan Shoemaker and Jon Culbertson, six sisters, Lois Channell of Sacramento, Calif., May Sanders of Ventura, Calif., Dorothy Lovely of Stone Mountain, Ga., Mildred Wright of Rockwell City, Ina Garland of Villisca and Eathel VanZee of Chariton, two brothers, Lowell of Auburn, Ct., and Paul of Fort Madison, nieces and nephews and a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 15,1988 at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Ryon officiating. Honored to serve as pallbearers were, Max Downard, Jerry Stone, Dennis Downard, Rick Shoemaker and Chuck Culbertson. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
