ROY BENWAY
Lester Roy Benway, son of the late Harry L. and Myra Benway, was born at Norwood, Lucas county, Iowa, September 1, 1907 and passed away July 22, 1964 at Pendleton, Ind., at the age of 56 years, 10 months and 22 days.
He spent his early boyhood in Wayne county and moved to Chariton in 1926.
He was united in marriage to Louise Elizabeth Lockridge December 28, 1928.
He leaves to mourn a step-daughter, Genevieve Sheldon, a step-son, Alva Lockridge, both of Russell and two step-grandsons, Cecil Lockridge and Alan Lockridge of Russell, six brothers, William of Le Claire, Marion of Ogden, Utah, Rex of Belmond, Harold of Chariton, Harvey of Melcher, and Paul Oliver of Wayne, Nebr., three sisters, Alice Elwood of Port Angeles, Wash., Mable Conners of Sigourney, and Maymie Batman of Chariton, and his step-mother, Mary Benway of Chariton, a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five sisters, Jenny, Beulah, Cleada, Lois and Dorothy and one brother, John.
His greatest pleasure was achieved when he was helping someone else. His happy and loving ways will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Services were held at the Woodman Funeral Home in Russell, Sunday, July 26, 1964 at 1 p.m., with burial in the Russell cemetery. The Rev. Charles Horn of Alderman, W. VA., officiated.
