Alice Wilma Elwood, born in Lucas County March 9, 1909, daughter of Harry and Myra Benway, both deceased, and stepmother, Mary Benway, also deceased.
She passed away April 1, 1983 at the home of her sister, Maymie Batman, with whom she had made her home since 1975.
Alice was married to Robert E. Elwood October 20 1948. Robert passed away August 2, 1965.
Alice and Bob were in business in Port Angeles, Washington for 15 years. They moved to Port Angeles, Wash. in 1951. They were ownwers of A and B Barber and Beauty Salons. Alice retired in 1966 because of health.
She was a member of the Business and Professional Womans Club, Yacht Club Auxillary, and also a member of O.E.S. Ester Chapter No. 19.
She is survived by two sisters, Maymie Batman and Mabel Conners; five brothers, Willard of Marshalltown, Rex and Harold Benway of Chariton, Harvey of Melcher, and Paul Oliver of Omaha; three step-sons, William Elwood, Port Angeles, Wash., Gene of Everett, Wash., and Robert Jr., Kalispell, Mont.; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 5, 1983 at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Arliss Daugherty officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
