Services for Charles Abbott were held Dec. 10 at the Church of God in Caruthersville. Mr. Abbott died at Baptist Hospital in Memphis on Dec. 8, 1979. He was 69.
The son of the late James Monroe and Vaneta Lena Nickelson Abbott, Mr. Abbott was born in Pemiscot County on Aug. 23, 1910. He attended Cottonwood Point School.
Mr. Abbott married Mabel Lorene Alsup Dec. 23, 1933, in Lepanto, Ark. They had four daughters and a son.
He was a retired employee of H & S Transportation Co.
Mr. Abbott is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Charlie Mae Sides of St. Louis, Mrs. Shirley Anne Coram of Caruthersville and Mrs. Sheila Kay Terrett of Hayti. One daughter, Betty Vernice, preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 1940.
Also surviving is a son, Talmade Avondale of Caruthersville; two brothers, John and Melvin, both of Caruthersville; a step-sister, Mrs. Vernia Abbott, also of Caruthersville; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Abbott was of the Church of God faith.
Pallbearers were Joe Abbott, Bobby Abbott, Billy Ray Abbott, John Johnkoski Abbott, John Joe Abbott, and Blaine Abbott. The Rev. Dan Black officiated and interment was in Maple Cemetery. H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville handled the arrangements.
