John Latta Abbott, 77, of Cottonwood Point, died May 1 at Chickasawba Hospital in Blyheville. Born December 13, 1907 in Cottonwood Point, he was the son of James Monroe and Vanta Lena Nickleson Abbott. He attended Cottonwood Point Schools and was a member of Cottonwood Point Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of Brown Shoe Co.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Lois Finley Abbott of Cottonwood Point; three sons, Robert James Abbott of Florissant, Mo., Billy Ray Abbott of St. Louis and John Joe Abbott of Cooter; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Martha Spencer of Grants Pass, Ore., and Mrs. Betty Ruth Tocco and Mrs. Pamela Jane Johnkoski, both of St. Louis;
One sister, Mrs. Vernie Abbott of Caruthersville; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services were May 3 at 2 p.m. at H.S. Smith Funeral Home chapel in Caruthersville, the Rev. David Lewelling officiating, with burial in Maple cemetery.
