Maggie Isaacs Barber

Born May 16, 1919, in Carter County, Tennessee, Maggie Isaacs Barber was the daughter of Aaron Wesley Isaacs, and Martha Alice Ashley Isaacs. She was their youngest child of ten children born and was the last of the surviving children.

Maggie's siblings were Charlie McCoy Isaacs, Brownlow Martin Isaacs, Cozy Jane Isaacs Nelson, Sarah Annar Isaacs, Sadie Alverta Isaacs Harrison, Maude Mae Isaacs Marlowe, Bertie L. Isaacs, Burnett Isaacs, and Earl Isaacs.

One of her sisters, Sarah "Annar" Isaacs, died at the age of only 14. Then Bertie L. Isaacs, left home as a very young lady, to find work out of state. She came back to visit just a few times, then never came back home. The last the family heard from her, she was in Maryland. Her father hired someone to try to find her, but they never could find her. So, for years, the family wondered what did happen to her, if she was alive, married, or was dead, as no closure, to her disappearance.

The remaining siblings all lived to be a fairly old age. Burnett was the youngest to die, at the age of 62, then the rest upward in age, to Cozy Jane, that was 91, when she passed away.

On January 28, 1938, McDowell County Courthouse, Marion, N.C., Maggie Isaacs married Melvin Reid Barber.

Maggie and Melvin had three children, their first born, Billy Reid Barber born in 1939, passed away March 16, 2007. They had a daughter 5 years later, after the birth of Bill. Then when Maggie and Melvin were in their early 40's, they had another unexpected baby boy. Also, just when they were looking forward to retirement...they were then put in the position of having to practically raise two of their grandchildren.

Maggie was a housewife, with only working outside the home at a cotton mill for a few months when she and Melvin were first married.

She was gifted with a talent of being very creative, as in making crafts, etc. and with most anything. In her younger years, she was a very good seamstress, she loved to design and make quilts and loved to crochet up until she could not see well enough to do so.

Her oldest son, Bill's wife, Irene, was her best friend to which she dearly loved. They did crafts together. Irene passed away in 2001 with ovarian cancer and Maggie missed her so much. She did very little crafts after Irene passed away.

Maggie's Best Friend & Daughter-In-Law: "Irene"

Maggie could even pick a tune on the guitar and the piano in her younger years. She loved the music of Floyd Cramer.

On July 6, 2009, Marion, McDowell County, North Carolina, Maggie Isaacs Barber, a widow since 1994, passed away, at the age of 90.
