LESTER R. VAN NICE

Lester Roland Van Nice, youngest son of Samuel and Mary Van Nice was born in Cedar township, Lucas County, Iowa, February 24, 1875 and passed away at the Yocom Hospital June 21, 1947, at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 27 days. His death was caused by heart failure following an operation. His wife and son were at his bedside when he passed away.

He was converted early in life and ever remained true to his profession.

He was married to Junia May, March 8, 1911. They have since made their home in the same vicinity except two years spent in Indiana. To them five children were born, Mary, the oldest, passed away at the age of seven and James Samuel died in infancy, Mrs. Isabel Winship of Canoga Park, California, Lester J. of Russell, Mrs. Susie Tinder of Iowa City.

He is survived by his wife and children, three grandchildren, Mary and Roger Winship and Richard Tinder, one brother, Henry Albert Van Nice of St. Petersburg, Florida and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Sells and Mrs. Florence Pedigo of Chariton

All who knew him feel a place is vacant that never can be filled. He truly lived for others. He gave freely of his time, energy, and cheering words. He could make life seem cheerful and worthwhile in spite of adversity, laughing off his own aches and ills until it seemed they didn't really exist.

We his family are forever indebted to him for his love and attention, which we thoughtlessly accepted, not knowing that his time was short and that there would be no chance to try and repay him. He had lived his life, he was ready to go, but we were not ready to have him leave.
