HATTIE VAN NICE SELLS
Hattie Rose Van Nice, eldest daughter of S. N. and Mary Allen Van Nice, was born May 18, 1861, in Cedar township, and died May 5, 1952, at the Baker Nursing home at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 13 days.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Florence Pedigo, who has been her constant companion since the death of their husbands.
She was married to William Sells on June 20, 1911, who died Feb. 7, 1948. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters. She cared for a nephew, who was left motherless at the age of 20 months and was also a devoted mother to five step-children.
She was converted in early life and her many friends and acquaintances will testify as to how well she kept her faith, bravely facing every difficulty. Her memory will be cherished by many friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 Thursday, May 8, conducted by the Rev. Paul Hicks of Des Moines, from the Miley Funeral home. Burial was in the Russell cemetery. Mrs. Cleo DeBok sang "It Is Well With My Soul." Pall bearers were Leland Clore, Jack Fogle, Bill Curtis, Harry Kinsey, Ray Eubank and Loren Schilling.
