DIED IN CANADA
Frank A. Van Nice, eldest son of Samuel N. and Mary Van Nice, was born in Cedar township, Lucas county, Iowa, on April 4, 1857. He grew to manhood here under the pioneer conditions of the time, which afforded meager opportunities for schooling compared with the present. But he was a great reader and so he overcame his early handicap in great measure.
In the early 1880's, he spent a few years on a farm in South Dakota, but returned to the vicinity of Russell, where he remained until about twelve years ago, when he located in Saskatchewan, Canada, near the town of Bengough. He was living there alone at the time of his death, which the doctors pronounced due to heart failure. He was found by a neighbor on December 24, dead in his chair with his gloves in his hand, just as he had returned from the town.
"Frank" as everyone knew him, was kindly and just in his dealings and always ready to do a neighbor a good turn. His genial nature enabled him to make friends readily, and they show all tender genuine sympathy to his family in their grief over his passing.
He is survived by three brothers and three sisters, Thomas F. and Lester, of Russell; Albert, of St. Petersburg, Florida; Mrs. Hattie Sells and Mrs. Florence Pedigo, of Norwood; and Mrs. Emma Littleton, of Lucas.
