MRS. S. J. LITTLETON
Emma D. Van Nice Littleton, daughter of S. N. and Mary Van Nice, was born near LaGrange, Iowa, on January 22, 1868, and passed away at her home in Lucas, Iowa, on Tuesday, March 13, 1934, at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 19 days.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. W. H. Larrick, of Derby, were held at the Beardsley Funeral Home in Chariton on Thursday morning at ten o'clock, and burial took place in the cemetery at Russell.
The entire life of deceased had been spent in Lucas county. She was married to S. J. Littleton on March 11, 1891. No children were born to them, but a nephew, Donald Van Nice, now of Denver, Colorado, was taken into their home and loved as a son. He was unable to be present at the funeral services.
Besides a devoted husband Mrs. Littleton is survived by three brothers and two sisters, T.F. and L. R. Van Nice, of Russell; H. A. Van Nice, of St. Petersburg, Florida; Mrs. Hattie Sells and Mrs. Florence Pedigo, of near Lucas, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
Mrs. Littleton was a woman of determined character, who met the difficulties of life bravley and cheerfully. She was never happier than when ministering to those whom she loved. At the time of death she was a member of the M. E. church of Lucas, and was interested and helpful in its affairs. Those who knew her best loved her most and her friends were legion.
