Susan was the daughter of Col. John Milton McClanahan & Dorothea Keyes. She came to Texas with her family by covered wagon in Dec 1846. She married Francis Marion Parks on 21 April 1864 in Burleson County,TX. They were parents of 8 children. She and her husband, and sons Nathaniel and Frank, daughters, Eppie & Mary Meador Smith and Mary's children, Carroll and Susie, moved to El Campo, Wharton, TX. Mary's husband T. E. Smith had died before the move. Then three members Susan's family died, Francis M, her husband, and her married daughter Mary Meador and her daughter Hallie. She moved the remaining family back to Hale County by covered wagon, where they lived with her daughter, Pyrena Leach.
