John Milton came to TX with his parents in 1846. He began farming at age 21,and immediately after his marriage 2 Aug.1857,he located on his present farm.He now owns 300 acres of land,120 acres of which is under good cultivation. During the late War he was engaged in detail service in Wall's division,commissary dept. In 1887 He was the Democratic nominee for the State Legislature for the district composed of Burleson and Lee Counties. He held that office by re-elections until 1888. Socially he is a Royal Arch Mason and religious a Clerk and Deacon of the Missonary Baptist Church. He married in Caldwell, Burleson, TX Aug.25,1857 to Elizabeth "Betty" Horton and they had 4 children: James William,John Seaborn and twins Emily & Mary. Mrs McClanahan died June 4,1874 and on 23 March 1882 he married Annie Griffin. This wife died January 1892. His remains will be brought here for burial Friday at the Prospect Church Cemetery of which church he was a member. (He died in Austin, Travis,TX)
