HARRIS, Melvin, 88 of Chestnut Ridge Road, Waynesburg, died Sunday, January 29, 1989 at the Friendship House Nursing Home in Danville. A native of Lincoln County, he was born March 13, 1900 to the late John Smith Harris and Mary Lizie Frazier Harris. He was a farmer and a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. He was the widower of Katie Mae Lynch Harris.

Survivors include four sons, Wallace Harris of Longview, Ill., Richard Harris of Stanford, Saley and Hershel Harris of Waynesburg; three daughters, Alice Bonta of Danville, Anna E. Cooper and Pauline Fossitt of Independence; a brother, Kelly Harris of Madison, Tenn.; four sisters, Madeline Dishon of Danville, Sally Brown and Melavee Saylor of Waynesburg and Elizabeth Harris of Taylorsville, Ill; several nieces and nephews; 29 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Lonnie Harris, Dennis Harris, Daniel Harris, Saley Harris, Jr., Daniel D. Cooper and Adam T. Fossitt. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Wayne Rayburn, Larry Rayburn, Melvin C. Rayburn, Clifford Rayburn, Kenneth Rayburn, Paul Rayburn, Alan Rayburn, Terry Rayburn, Robert Harris, Carl Harris, Wayne Harris, Jerry Harris, and John Smith Harris.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 31 at the Fox Funeral Home with Rev. Scott VanDike officiating. Burial was in Mr. Hebron Baptist Cemetery.
