George Alexander (Sandy) Mayfield was the oldest child of George Washington Mayfield and his second wife Malissa Felecia Cox. He had 4 sisters. He also had 2 half brothers and 2 half sisters born to George Washington Mayfield and Polly Ann Smith.
George Alexander (Sandy) Mayfield married Rebecca Ann (Becky) Crosby on 13 December 1876 in Clarke County, MS.
He spent his entire life in Wautubbee, Clarke County, MS and is said to have loved those red clay hills. He would on occasion start out walking the distance from Wautubbee to Laurel, MS to visit his oldest son Henry Crosby Mayfield. I suppose on most of those occasions, he would be offered a ride by a passerby.
In their old age he and Rebecca made their home with their youngest child, Marvella Malissa Mayfield Overby. Sandy lived another ten years after his beloved Rebecca died. He was laid to rest beside her in Elliville Cemetery, Jones County, MS.
