Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation is 7 to 8:30 tonight at Hankins, Whittington & Williams- Dearborn Funeral Home.
Mr. Mayfield, a native of Clark County, Miss., retired in 1973 as a Railway Express Co. general foreman. At his church he was a member of the men's Bible class. He also was a World War I Army veteran.
Survivors are his wife, Mary; sons, Larry Mayfield of Atlanta, Brooks Mayfield, Tom Mayfield; daughters, Mrs. Nancy Brookes of Morganton, Mrs. Jane Jackson; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
