Funeral services for W. J. Rice, former Taylor County Judge, were held Sunday, August 16, at 2 p.m. in the Elkhorn Methodist Church. Burial was in the Elkhorn Cemetery with Masonic rites. The services were under the direction of Rev. Roy Crenshaw and Rev. Felix Sanders. Judge Rice died August 13 at his home on Oak Street. He was 89. He served two terms as County Judge from 1925 to 1933. He owned and operated a flour mill at Elkhorn for many years and also was a farmer. For many years until about 15 years ago, he was teacher of the Men's Bible Class at the Elkhorn Methodist Church. He was past master of Pitman Masonic Lodge No. 125, of which he was a member for more than 50 years. He was born April 8, 1864 the son of the late R. M. Rice and Nancy Jones Rice in Adair County and had been in declining health for the past six years. Judge Rice professed faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of the Elkhorn Methodist Church.
