Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Rice, 77 years of age, were held Monday afternoon, March 29 at 2:30 p.m., from the Elkhorn Methodist Church with the Rev. W. C. Frank in charge, assisted by Rev. Roy Glidewell. Burial was in the Elkhorn Cemetery. Mrs. Rice, daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Jane Fisher, died at her home here Sunday, March 28 at 2:45 a.m. She had been in ill health for the past five months. She professed faith in Christ at an early age in life and was a member of the Elkhorn Methodist Church. She united in marriage to W. J. "Bid" Rice in 1862. To this union three sons and three daughters were born. Surviving: Mrs. Oliver Crouch, G. J. Rice, Dr. Howard Rice, and Miss Arlene Rice, all of this city; and Mrs. R. D. Jeter of Nicholasville. Also a niece, Mrs. Abe Newton of this city, whom she reared from infancy, one sister, Mrs. Sue Mann of Louisville, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. The pallbearers were Wilbur Weatherford, Horace Dudgeon, Hammon Cave, Harold White, Tom Dabney, and Stanley Murrah. ~The News-Journal, Thursday, April 1, 1948
