BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SCOTT was born August 7, 1869 in Millcreek, Salt Lake, Utah to John Scott and Sarah Ann Willis. He was their ninth child.

Benjamin married Rebecca (Becky) (Brown) Hemsley on September 1894 in Salt Lake City.

After a few years of living in Salt Lake City, Utah, the couple received a lot of land from her father, Edward Hemsley, on at 1337 South 1200 East, Sugarhouse. On this land Benjamin his children and other family members built Benjamin and Becky's new home.

Benjamin worked as a guard at the local Utah State Prison at 1500 East and 2100 South. The old prison doesn't exist now instead the Highland High School and Sugarhouse Park are using the land.

The prison work was convenant for Benjamin because it was in walking distance of his home.

To this blessed marriage where born the following children:

Willis Benjamin Scott
John Edward Scott
Vera Rebecca Scott
Winfield Franklin Scott
Simeon Winslow Scott

He passed away of pneumonia when he was 53 years old. Leaving Becky with 3 teenage boys and no income to support the family. At this time America hadn't established the welfare and social security system for widows.

All of the family had to help support Becky and the boys. Becky took in boarders for an income however that wasn't enough money. Therefore, one of the married children that lived with her would pay for her room and board.

Mary was a meticulous househeeper and an excellent cook.

After Becky passed away in 1938 the Scott home was sold and remained standing for many years to come. It didn't change it's looks much except for the Gray paint on the brick and white paint on the wood. Even the landscape seemed to remain the same.

Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Scott both believed in the importance of family and family functions. Since their passing the family has organized a family reunion in their name and has been put on by a family member referred to as John (Jack) Scott. it has been held the last Sunday of June at Big Bear Park, 9695 South 930 East, Sandy, Utah. All Jacob Scott descendent is welcome.
