Obit from Ocilla Star November 3, 1932.
The body of Mrs. Katie Fletcher Dawson, thirty four, who died in Miami, Sunday October 23, 1932 arrived in Tifton, Wednesday at noon, accompanied by her brother Warren Fletcher. Her husband, Russell Kent Dawson; Mr. Dawson's brother; and her brother, Jake Fletcher, drove through the country in a car, arriving Tuesday night.
The body was carried to the home of her parents , Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Fletcher at Mystic, in Irwin County, where a large number of relatives and friends gathered to view the remains and extend love and sympathy to the bereaved family.
Funeral services were held at the Fletcher family cemetery, a half mile from the home, at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. George C. Gibson, of Tifton, and Rev. Theo Stripling of Pinetta Baptist Church, Mrs. Dawson's pastor. Beautiful tributes were paid to the life of Mrs. Dawson and words of comfort were spoken to the bereaved loved ones. W. B. Hitchcock, T. D. Paulk, Richard Gibbs, Clifton Fletcher, Dewey Fletcher, and Horace Hutchinson acted as pall bearers.
There was a large crowd of friends and relatives in attendance at the funeral, attesting the high esteem in which Mrs. Dawson was held by the people among whom she spent her girlhood and early womanhood. The floral offerings were most beautiful and numerous. Miami friends sent many pretty flowers and a large number were sent by friends and loved ones in this section.
Mrs. Dawson was born at the Fletcher home place at Mystic, in Irwin County, and spent most of her life there. At the age of twenty she united with the Pinetta Baptist church and had been a faithful member since. She went to Miami in 1923 and entered training in the Jackson Memorial hospital, from which she graduated as a nurse in 1926. She went through the horrors of the Miami hurricane soon after graduation. Early in 1927 she married Russell Kent Dawson. They were a very devoted couple, Mrs. Dawson proving a most excellent wife and mother and lived for her family. She leaves to mourn her death, five children including an infant born a few days before its mother's death.
