MRS. MARY JANE DODSON
Clouds of yesterday afternoon but echoed the grief and shadows in the hearts of those gathered for the farewell to wife, mother and sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Dodson, at the chapel of the Mark B. Shaw company. Pioneer friends came with the relatives also to mourn the beloved lady, so lately a messenger of good cheer among them.
Elder Arthur H. Mills of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints spoke from the fifteenth chapter of First Corinthians, enlarging upon the compensations to be expected from the sacrifices of the Christian life here. Mrs. G. K. Jerome and Mrs. Lois Aldridge Grenawait sang as duets the beautiful selections, Some day the Silver Cord Will Break, and Beautiful Isle of Somewhere. Mrs. Mills was the accompanist. Members of the W. R. C. held a brief service at the chapel before forming the funeral cortege out to the City cemetery, while the pioneers read the ritual of their society at the graveside.
Flowers of many hues and much fragrance added their messages of love and comfort to the words spoken by sympathetic friends to the sorrowing. Those from the Pioneer society who acted as pallbearers were: John Brown, Jr., George Miller, J. M. Corbett, Jerry Curtis, Irvin Swarthout and C. L. Mecham.
Beside the husband, Elijah Dodson, there are left to mourn: three sisters, Mrs. Hiram Clark and Mrs. Madora Hansen of this city, Mrs. L. W. Smith of Arkansas, and Mrs. Elizabeth Dodson of Colton; daughters, Mrs. Henrietta McMullen, Mrs. J. S. Weeks and Mrs. J. T. Reed, all of San Bernardino.
