Body of Soldier Being Returned to Baxter County.

Mr .and Mrs. W. H. Lane of Mountain Home this week received notice from the War Department that the remains of their son, the late Pfc. George Lee Lane, are to be delivered at Mountain Home soon. Pfc. Lane was killed in the invasion of Iwo Jima of February 20, 1945. He was 21 years of age and was with the Fifth Marine Division. He spent the greater part of his life in the vicinity of Old Joe, where the family lived at the time he entered the service. It was announced that a military rites will be held at Galatia, on Highway 5 between Calico Rock and Norfork, although the date of the funeral has not been set.

Military Rites Held At Galatia For George Lane.

Military rites for Pfc. George Lee Lane, who died in the invasion of Iwo Jima, were held at the Galatia Church Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. D. W. Stark officiating. Burial was in the Galatia Cemetery with veterans organizations serving in a color guard and firing squad for the military services. The body was sent here for burial from Iwo Jima Fifth Marine Division Cemetery, Zazan Retto.
