TAYLOR COUNTY KENTUCKY OBITUARY – 1979
Mr. John B. Shofner, 64, of Finley, Route 1, son of the late Mr. Wes Shofner & Mrs. Lillie Hedgespeth Shofner, was born in Taylor County, December 9, 1914. He died at 10:40 p.m., Monday, August 13, 1979, at the Taylor County Hospital where he had been a patient for the past week. He had professed faith in Christ and was of the Separate Baptist faith. He was a retired farmer; he had worked as a timber cutter and for the 10 years before his retirement he worked for the Kentucky State Highway Department. He was a veteran of WW II having served in the US Army. He united in marriage to Miss Velma Underwood, February 14, 1946. Besides his wife, Mrs. Velma Underwood Shofner of Finley, Route 1, he is survived by 1 son and 2 daughters: Mrs. Maxine Durham of Campbellsville, Star Route, and Mr. J.C. Shofner and Mrs. Helen Sprowles, both of Finley, Route 1. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; 2 brothers and 3 sisters: Mr. Herman Shofner of Campbellsville, Star Route; Mrs. Lucy Skaggs of Campbellsville, Route 6; Mr. Thomas Shofner of Fairdale, KY; and Mrs. Ruth Gunn and Mrs. Nora Sprowles, both of Louisville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 15, at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Chapel by Rev. Garlen Skaggs. Burial was in Zion Separate Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Skaggs, Virgil Shofner, Buddy Sprowles, Woodrow Price, Harden Hedgespeth and Edmon Miller.
