Notes: Historia or Victoria (Torie) was born June 15, 1876 and died January 28, 1953. On January 18, 1903, she married George Frederick Briix, who was born November 8, 1877. George was a member of the Lutheran Church. Torie was a member of the Christian Church. They had three children: twin girls, Louise and Luella, and a son, Robert. Victoria was born in a four-room house in the hills near Blaine, KY on June 15, 1876. She came to Kansas with her parents, Andrew J. and Mary Jane, along with her six sisters and three brothers, to Morris County, Parkerville, Kansas, in November of 1885; she was nine years old at the time. They were members of the Baptist Church.

Torie married George Frederick Briix on January 18, 1903. George was born near Dresden, Germany on November 8, 1877. He came to the United States at the age of six with his parents, Robert and Hermina Briix. George and Torie lived in Hope [Dickinson Co, KS], where their twin daughters were born, and then moved to Delavan [Morris Co], Kansas. After his parents died, he moved his family to the farm north of Delavan that his parents had homesteaded. They lived on the farm until 1942 when they were forced to leave because a portion of the land was purchased by the government to build an Air Base. Sixty acres remained in their name. They purchased a home in White City, KS where they lived until their health began to fail in 1951. A move to Burlington, KS to be near their daughter Louise, who helped care for them, was made.

Torie was a housewife with many talents. She was a wonderful cook, gardener, seamstress, care-giver to family and friends, with firm convictions and beliefs. She was a member of the Christian Church, and the Progressive Club. She died January 28, 1953, after being bedfast for six years, and a series of several strokes. George was a farmer and was a gentle, caring father and grandfather. His love for the land and his possessions kept him challenged to be independent. George died just ten months after Torie died. He was so devoted to her and her care, his heart was broken with grief. This was a true, committed "love affair." Written by granddaughter, Doris Ek Morgan.

March 15, 1906 - Twin girls were born to Mr. and Mrs. George Briix, south of town, recently.

The Highland News - The little twin daughters of George Briix and wife were seriously burned last Thursday morning by the lamp on the incubator. The mother left the room for a few moments and the children pushed the slide that the lamp rests on, letting the lamp fall and thus setting the little ones on fire. They are some better at this writing.

Rolling Prairie News - Mrs. Julius Oleson and Mrs. Mike Kern visited at George Briix's last Saturday and Sunday and assisted in caring for the little twins that were so badly burned. We hope the little ones will be spared to the afflicted parents, who have the sympathy of the entire community in their trouble.

April 4, 1907 - Along Route 2, Mrs. Julius Oleson and Mrs. Mike Kern went to Delavan last Saturday to see their little nieces, who have been badly burned.

April 11, 1907 - Rolling Prairie - Susie Blythe has returned to L.A. Rickey's after an absence of a week to assist in caring for her little twin nieces, near Delavan, who were burned so badly a few weeks ago.

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY

Sunday Marks Fifty Years for Mr. and Mrs. George Briix

Sunday will mark 50 years of married life for Mr. and Mrs. George Briix of Burlington, formerly of this county. They were married by the late Rev. T. P. Henry of Wilsey on January 18, 1903.

The couple is planning no open house because both are in ill health.

Mr. Briix suffered a stroke last Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Briix had spent all of their lives in Morris county before going to Burlington a few years ago. They lived four-and-one-half miles north of Delavan.

The couple has two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Zschiele of Burlington and Mrs. Reuben Ek of Dwight, and one son, Bob Briix, of Kansas City. They also have 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. All of the family plans to be with them for the occasion.

MRS. GEORGE BRIIX

Funeral services will be held at the White City Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for a former resident of the community, Mrs. George Briix, who died at Burlington about 3:25 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Interment will be in the White City cemetery.

Mrs. Briix had been bedfast for the past five or six years. She had made her home at Burlington since August, 1951.

Born near Blaine, Ky., June 15, 1876, she came to Morris County with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Blythe, in November, 1885. The family lived near Parkerville for many years, and Mrs. Briix remained a resident of this county until she moved to Burlington to make her home.

Surviving are her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Zscheile, of Burlington and Mrs. Reuben Ek of Dwight, and one son, Bob Briix. She also leaves one brother, Harold J. Blythe of Nebraska, and fours sisters, Mrs. J. S. Oleson of Council Grove, Mrs. Mike Kern of Delavan, Mrs. Jason Butts of Quenemo and Mrs. Jacob Ruff of Russell 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Briix celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on January 18.
