Sunday Marks Fifty Years for Mr. and Mrs. George Briix

Sunday will mark 50 years of married life for Mr. and Mrs. George Briix of Burlington, formerly of this county. They were married by the late Rev. T. P. Henry of Wilsey on January 18, 1903.

The couple is planning no open house because both are in ill health.

Mr. Briix suffered a stroke last Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Briix had spent all of their lives in Morris county before going to Burlington a few years ago. They lived four-and-one-half miles north of Delavan.

The couple has two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Zschiele of Burlington and Mrs. Reuben Ek of Dwight, and one son, Bob Briix, of Kansas City. They also have 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. All of the family plans to be with them for the occasion.

GEORGE BRIIX DIES

George Briix, formerly of White City, died at his home at Burlington Saturday morning at 5 o'clock. He had been in poor health the past two years, having suffered two light strokes during that time. A severe heart attack suffered on Thursday caused his death.

Services for Mrs. Briix were held at Burlington this morning at 9 o'clock, and the body was brought to White City for funeral services at the Methodist church this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. Frank Parker officiated.

Mr. Briix came with his parents from Germany when he was a small boy, and his father homesteaded a place in the Delavan community. George lived there until he retired and moved to White City in 1942. It was two years ago that he went to Burlington to make his home.

Two daughters and one son survive. They are Mrs. Luella Ek of Dwight, Mrs. Louise Zscheile of Burdick, and Robert Briix of Kansas City, Mo. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother, Robert Briix of Oklahoma, and a sister, Mrs. Elsa Ninneman of Herington.

His wife, the former Tora Blythe, to whom he was married in January, 1903, preceded him in death last January 28.

Obituary: A short funeral service for George Frederick
Briix was held at 9 o'clock Monday morning from the Mann Funeral home in Burlington [KS], and the body was then taken to White City, Kansas for services at 2:30 P.M. at the White City Methodist Church and the Rev. Frank Parker conducted the service. Interment was in the White City Cemetery. Joe Decker, W.F. Patten, J.E. Lafferty, Louis Knapp, Francis Kiene and Carl Zscheile were casket bearers at Burlington, and at White City the bearers were Jerry Paige, Jay Brittain, Glen Miller, Lloyd Miller, Clarence Phelps and Raymond Auld. Mrs. Betty Iden, accompanied by Mrs. Wilbur Bond, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden."

George Frederick Briix, son of Robert and Hermina Briix, was born near Dresden, Germany on November 8, 1877. In 1884 at the age of 6, he came to the United States with his parents who settled on a farm near White City, Kansas, which was his home except for eight years in which he lived in Hope [KS] and Delavan [KS] and until he retired and moved to White City, Kansas in 1942. On January 18, 1903, he was united in marriage to Victoria [Historia] Blythe, who preceded him in death on January 28, 1953, ten days after their 50th wedding anniversary. Although he regularly attended church in his own community, he always kept his membership in the Lutheran Church, which he joined at an early age. In August, 1951, he moved from White City, Kansas to Burlington, Kansas where he made his home until the time of his death on November 7, 1953 at the age of 75 years, 11 months, and 29 days. He is survived by his three children: twin daughters, Louise and Luella, and a son, Robert; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Briix of Vici, Oklahoma; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Ninneman of Herington, Kansas; and one cousin, Mrs. Mary Glynn of Enid, Oklahoma, who has always been very close to him. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Briix and one sister, Mrs. Hattie Herpich.
