Katie was the daughter of Jehu and Mary Alice Conaway Bell. Her parents are buried in Bell Cemetery. She married John Bell Hefley about 1916. They were the parents of two sons, John Melvin Hefley, Homer Royal Hefley, and two daughters, Nelda F. Hefley and Bobbie Alice Hefley. Their son, Homer, is also buried in Bell Cemetery. John died 6 February 1954 and is buried in Loco Cemetery in Stephens Co, OK. After his death, Katie married Carl Bacon. He died 26 January 1966 and is buried beside his first wife in New Addition Annex of Palestine City Cemetery. Katie died in Andrews in Andrews Co, TX. She was survived by two son, John M. Hefley of Lake Striker and Homer R. Hefley of Quitman; two daughters, Nelda Hefley Garrett of Seminole and Bobbie Alice Hefley Campbell of Andrews; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Marshall Bell of Malakoff; and one sister, Mrs. Florence Eilenberger of Palestine. Her obituary was published in the Palestine Herald-Press, Monday, 16 July 1984.
