Mr. Yancey was born in Bleckley County but had lived most of his life in Laurens County. He was a member of the Poplar Springs North Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Wilma Florence Yancey; five sons, Thomas A. Yancey, Jr., of Andersonville, William D. Yancey of Macon, Don Yancey and Wayne Yancey, both of Dublin, and George Yancey of Milledgeville; two daughters, Mrs. Blanch Land of Macon, and Mrs. Beatrice Sheffield of Gordon; two brothers, Paul Yancey of Montrose and Joe Yancey of Lake City, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Collier of Macon, and Mrs. Ruth Kelly of Macon.
