Jacob Mikl, 89, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, in the care of the Pocopson Home of Chester County, where he resided for the past two years due to poor health.
Born in Parkesburg, Jake was the son of the late Jacob and Frances Schmidt Mikl, immigrants from Hungary.
He was the husband of the late Evelyn Greer Mikl, who died in 1982.
Jake enjoyed his lifelong job as an engineman for the Pennsylvania Railroad and later Conrail until his retirement in 1981 to care for his wife.
Besides his wife of 40 years, his only son, Richard J. Mikl, preceded Jake in death in 1996. Also preceding him in death were his sisters, Helen Conover, Mary Berstler, Mathilda Warren, Theresa Silver and Margaret Mikl; and his brother, Charles "Ches" Mikl.
Jake is survived by daughters, Donna Lindley, wife of Daniel Lindley of Honey Brook, Evelyn Krynski of Pottstown, and Marlene Daly of Quebec, Canada. Also surviving is his twin sister, Frances McCowan of Ephrata. He will be missed by 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Ss. Philip & James Church, Route 30 and Ship Road, Exton, on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m.
Entombment will be private at the convenience of his family.
Arrangements are be handled by the Devlin-Rosmos-Kepp Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Main Street at Fourth Avenue, Phoenixville.
In keeping with Jake's lifelong generosity to others, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Neighborhood Hospice, 400 E. Marshall St., West Chester, PA 19380; or to the charity of one's choice.
