Parkesburg, Dec. 21- A pretty wedding took place on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the rectory of Our Lady of Consolation Church, Parkesburg, when Miss Bernice N. Remsel, daughter of Mrs. Grant Parthemer, of First Avenue, became the bride of Charles S. Mikl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Mikl, of Pomeroy. The ceremony was performed by Dr. Simon Carr, rector of the church. After the reception, the couple left on a trip by automobile. On their return, they will reside at their newly furnished home at Sadsburyville. The groom is employed at the Bicking Paper mills, Downingtown. Guests were present from Harrisburg, Pomeroy, Parkesburg and vicinity.

Bernice M. Mikl, 21, of Parkesburg, was granted a divorce from Charles Mikl, 23, of Sadsbury, on grounds of desertion. They were married December 19, 1935 and separated December 8, 1937. The Decree was signed by Judge Ernest Harvey.

Kathryn Mikl, 21, 46 Brandywine Ave, Modena, was today granted a divorce from Charles S. Mikl, 38,Chestnut St, Coatesville, in Chester County Court. The decree signed by Judge W. Butler Windle, was awarded on grounds of indignities. It was testified that the couple married December 1944 and Separated August12, 1945

Service # 65-04-382. US Navy from April 17, 1942 to September 24, 1942. Seaman Second Class, Honorable discharge.

Charles S. "Ches" Mikl of Coatesville

Charles S. "Ches" Mikl, 86, of Coatesville, died peacefully at his home.

He was the husband of the late Sara K. Seigle Mikl, who died in 1992.

Born in Highland, he was the son of the late Jacob and Frances Schmidt Mikl.

Chess served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on the Destroyers Waynewright and the Buck. He later served on the Destroyer Ingraham, which sank during a Mid-Atlantic collision. Chess was one of 11 crew members to have survived. Lastly, he was aboard the USS Destroyer Bristol when it was sunk by a torpedo in the Mediterranean Sea. Chess was severly wounded.

He formerly served as a police officer for Valley and was also a county deputy sheriff.

Throughout most of his working years, he owned and operated Chess's Garage and Towing Service in Westwood.

He was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Church in Parkesburg, the Coatesville Lodge 564 F & A M of Coatesville, Reading Rajah Temple, the Jesters and the Chester County Shriners.

Chess was a life member of many area fire companies.

He also served on the Chester County Airport Board of Directors and voluntarily flew children to the Boston Hospital for the Shriners.

He is survived by a son, C. Michael Mikl and wife, Marti, of Phoenix, Ariz; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Jaocb Mikl of Coatesville, and a sister, Frances McCowan of Ephrata.

He was preceded in death by four sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, at Our Lady of Consolation Church, Second Avenue, Coatesville and Chestnut Street, Parkesburg.

Interment will follow at the Parkesburg Catholic Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 19, at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg.

A Masonic service will be conducted by the Coatesville Lodge 564 F & A m at 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
