Chico Enterprise, Friday, May 14, 1948: "Jesse Gray Dies Of Heart Ailment. Jesse Gray, 64, native and lifetime resident of Butte County and the Chico area, died at 11:30 a.m. today at his East Humboldt home, the victim of a heart ailment. Gray was born at Dayton. He grew up there and for many years owned and operated an almond orchard. At one time he attended business college in Stockton. More recently Gray operated a feed business on Humboldt Road. Gray was married in 1906 to Frankie C. Cory, of Dayton. His survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Dewey Wookey and Mrs. Ralph Hovey, both of Chico; three brothers, Al and D.I. Gray both of Chico, and Dick Gray, of Alturas, and one sister, Mrs. Edna Hilbert, of Eureka. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Huddleston Funeral Home. Burial will be in the family plot at Dayton."

Chico Enterprise, Monday, May 17, 1948: "Gray Funeral Is Held Here Today. Funeral services for Jesse Gray, former Dayton rancher, who died at his home here Friday, were conducted this afternoon at the Huddleston Funeral Chapel, where his many friends came to pay their last respects to his memory. Rev. Robert H. Clark of the First Christian Church officiated at the services, during which David Wurschmidt sang two selections `In The Garden,' and `The End of a Perfect Day,' accompanied on the chapel organ by Marie Erwin. Friends serving as pallbearers were Clinton Baccala, Otis Kimball, Ed Hensley, George Shepard, Manuel Azevedo and John O'Leary. Honorary escorts were T.W. Rodgers, Tom Collins, Warren Stevens and Faud Boucher. Interment followed in the family plot at the Dayton Cemetery."
