The picture is of the wedding anniversary taken in Sept. 1941, 70 years of marriage.
Surrounded by scores of friends and relatives, Mr. and Mrs. George Miller Jr. observed their anniversary with an "Open House" at their home, 1683 Victoria avenue. In the celebration they played an active part that belied their ages; he is 91 and she is 90.
In fact, in the midst of congratulatory speeches, Mr.Miller remarked the "secret" of happy married life is: "Let a woman have her own way. Never try to stop her talking when she starts".
Wife of George Miller Jr., 31 August 1871, San Bernardino, CA.
Mother of 7 children; Joseph, Elenorah Augusta, "Nancy" Miller Crandall, George Elijah Miller, Ida Ann Miller Lamb, Mary Catherine Miller Rogers Burgess, William Franklin Miller, and Charles Boughton Miller.
She was born at Council Bluffs, Iowa, March 19,1851, and three months later, while on the hazardous trip by wagon train to California, she was laid out in a makeshift coffin preparatory to burial. Materials being scarce, the casket was nothing more than a crude violin case.
One of the members of the train, however, was not convinced that the baby girl was dead despite the fact that nearly everybody else thought so. Crude treatment was administered and the child recovered so well she is active and alert at 90.
The violin case is still on display at the anniversary observance.
At this observance are four living children, Mrs.J. O.Lamb, William F. Miller, Mrs. Irwin S. Burgess, and Charles B. Miller. Four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild was little blonde, Honore Ashworth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ashworth
