Robert A. "Bumpy" Bumpus, 73, of Springfield, IL died on Feb. 22, 1991, in Springfield. He was born June 28, 1917 in Pawnee, IL the son of Aloysius Joseph and Catherine Pike Bumpus. He married Helen L. Quinn in June of 1944 in Auburn, IL.

He was employed by the United States Postal Services in Springfield, IL for 32 years until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, United Commercial Travelers, Elks Lodge, Sunset Club, American Postal Workers Union, Knights of Columbus Council in Virden and a founding member of the Postal Club on Lake Springfield. He was also a very enthusiastic photographer and spent many hours taking photos of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister; Theresa M. "Chick" (Calvin T.)Robinson, and two brothers John C. (Eilline V.) Bumpus, and Ernest W. (Lela) Bumpus.

He is survived by his wife Helen of Springfield; son, Patrick (Patty Long) Bumpus of Springfield; daughter Cathy L. (Dr. Duane A.) Brown of Loami; four grandchildren: Craig Brown, Chris Brown and Marc Brown and Tara Perry. 4 sisters Tena (Edward) Hickey of Virden, Edna Decker of St. Petersburg, FL, M. Catherine (James) Hamilton and Barbara J. (Edward L.) Williams both of Springfield and one brother James L. (A. Patricia) Bumpus of Springfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and extended family.

Funeral Mass was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Springfield, IL with the Rev Eugene Weitzel officiating. Burial followed at West Grove Cemetery in Thayer, IL.
