Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays with Father Frank Grinko officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Munjor, Kan. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Hays Memorial Chapel in Hays, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation also will be held from 9 a.m. to time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Schumacher was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Munjor to John and Mary Theresa Herl Pfannenstiel.
She married Nicholas "Nick" Schumacher on Oct. 4, 1943, in Hays, and he preceded her in death.
She was a nurse's aid for many years in Salina, Plainville and Dodge City, Kan. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a volunteer at St. Anthony's Hospital and St. John's Nursing Home for several years.
Survivors include a son, Neal Schumacher of Columbia; two daughters, Deanna Bieberly of Lawrence, Kan., and Pamela Hines of Hays; two brothers, Henry Pfannenstiel of Hays and Danny Pfannenstiel of Munjor; six sisters, Ida Dinkel, Minnie Berens and Armella Ross, all of Hays, Louise Stecklein of Munjor, Rosie Dome of Basehor, Kan., and Theresa Schippers of Victoria, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ted Pfannenstiel, Jake Pfannenstiel, Bob Pfannenstiel and Eddie Pfannenstiel; and two sisters, Lucy Schmidtberger and Virginia Dreiling.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Cemetery Association.
